I am originally from Yonkers, New York. I fell in love with the piano at an early age. Completely drawn in by it, I experimented on my own until I began lessons at about age 7. Our family later moved to Las Vegas where I finished High School and spent a lot of time backstage at Caesar's Palace with my Uncle Eddie who was the Stage Manager there for 30 years. During that time I heard and met many of the most famous musicians in the world. Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Buddy Rich, Tina Turner, Liberace and Blood Sweat and Tears all were great influences.
I began formal studies at Willamette University in Salem Oregon in 1981, winning a Talent Award Scholarship and playing in the Jazz Band there. I transferred to Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle in 1984. I took classes and performed locally as a soloist. I became friends with many of the Seattle musicians who are still great friends today. Many have come to perform House Concerts in my studio here such as Marc Seales, Randy Halberstadt, Overton Berry, and Jovino Santos Neto. While at Cornish I studied privately with Jerome Grey, Randy Halberstadt, Peggy Stern and Peter Mack.
In 1987 I began a 10 year career performing on a night club in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Montana, Idaho and 2 Cruise Ship Tours. I worked as a singer/pianist, a member of a duo act called Take Two and briefly in Seattle with a group called "The Girlfriends".
In 1997 I began to develop my teaching career. I joined the WSMTA and later became President of the local chapter in 2000. I served as its President for 3 years. Several of my students have won or placed in competitions. Two of them have received "Best Soloist" awards at the Lional Hampton Jazz Festival, some have been granted scholarships for their musical merit and a few have gone on to professional careers.
I continue to teach about 25 students a week and to perform in concerts, some of them at my own studio where I produce a House Concert Series each Fall along with an annual Fall Concert at South Whidbey High School. (please see concert calandar page for schedule).
I have just finished recording my first professional CD "Portrait in Four Colors" with Thomas Marriott, Clipper Anderson and Brian Kirk. It is the CD that I have waited my entire life to make and I look forward to its release later this summer. A few MP3 tracks are available on this site for you to check out!
